I have 15 years Experiance in the Engineering field and now am in a senior positon within a well established company.
I manage a division of the company dealing in after sales and RCA of Mechanical systems.
I train BSc Mechanical Engineers on a regular basis and consult with companies such as Eskom, Sasol and Mittal on a regular basis.
My question..
Can I register for a Pr Eng via any alternative route, considering the fact that I only have a Mechanical Diploma?, but ironically am training the BSc Mech Eng guys as well as being one of the people the big companies call in to carry out investigations and RCA’s when there is fluid system related problems..?
Please note that you may apply for registration as a Professional ENgineer via the alternative route provide you have 10 years experience on the level of an engineer after obatinign the National Diploma from a Univarsity of technology(formely know as a Technikon). Your are however required to do 40 to 50% recommended subjects of the BSc engineering Degree modules after submission of an application should your experience be adequite for registration as a Professional Engineer.
Further, please note that you may also apply for registration as a Professional Engineering Technologist via the alternative route provided that your experience is accetable as per the Policy Statement R 2/1 B for acceptable work for registration as a Professional Engineering Technologist. The policy statement can be downloaded from our website http://www.ecsa.co.za for perusal.
Please contact me on 011 607 9540 should you need any further assistance, information or clarity.
Mpho,
This will depend on the employer as with any other industry.
The best and most accurate estimates you will get are from engineers whom have been in industry for about 1 -2 years.
Also you can have a look at salary surveys, readily available on the internet.
